WHAT IS A GRADING?

Gradings are tests we have every term & in our holiday camps to earn belts.
The belt system is at the heart of Kickboxing & provides a focus on self-confidence, perseverance, focus & respect. Earning a belt brings children a sense of satisfaction & self-fulfilment, building their confidence & self-esteem along the way.
Gradings are not compulsory. Students can still progress through the same kickboxing syllabus if you choose not to pay for their belt & certificate - they just won't be formally recognised for their achievement. Gradings are sequential. If they'd like to be formally recognised for their Grading at a later time, they will continue from the next belt in order, not the level they may be training at - they can't skip belts. This ensures every student demonstrates each level to standard and maintains the integrity of the Grading system
Belts are referred to in Little Samurai as Tags, Young Samurai as Stripes & Samurai Kickboxers as Colours.
When your child moves up an age group (e.g. Little Samurai to Young Samurai or Young Samurai to Samurai Kickboxers), they will be given their corresponding belt in their new class (it is not a straight swap as each age group's syllabus is very different).
A Samurai Kickboxing suit is not required until a student reaches Red belt (in every age group) & sparring equipment is not required until students reach more advanced belt levels - read more about Sparring here.

Gradings are taken at the belt in which the student currently resides:

Students collect coloured tapes which are added to their belt & once all 3 have been collected, they are ready to Grade:
Red - exercises mastered
Blue - stretches mastered
White - continued good behaviour (respect, hard work & discipline)
IN-CLASS GRADINGS. |
Every term, all lower grade belts will have a Grading in their regular Kickboxing class.
Everyone will take the Grading & we will notify you & request payment if your child progresses to their next belt.
PUBLIC VENUE GRADINGS. |
Higher grade belts will be invited to grade on a weekend at a public venue to accommodate the extended Grading time.

Lower Grade Students (in-class Gradings)
Payable after the termly in-class Grading if your child passes & you would like them to receive their next belt & certificate.
Higher Grade Students (public venue, weekend Grading)
You will be asked for the Grading fee before they attend the public venue / weekend Grading.
Your child’s Annual License is included in the Grading fee & covers student insurance & registration with the British Martial Arts & Boxing Association (BMABA) who validate Gradings, instil industry standards & act as an ombudsman in issues such as Safeguarding & Health & Safety. The Grading fee also covers administration, Instructor time, belt ordering & certificate printing:
