 WHAT IS A GRADING?

Gradings are tests we have every term & in our holiday camps to earn belts.

The belt system is at the heart of Kickboxing & provides a focus on self-confidence, perseverance, focus & respectEarning a belt brings children a sense of satisfaction & self-fulfilment, building their confidence & self-esteem along the way.

Gradings are not compulsory & students can still progress through the same kickboxing syllabus if they choose not to Grade.

Parents will be notified by email when their child is ready to Grade & Gradings are taken at the belt in which the student currently resides:

In the different age groups, belts are called:

Tags - Little Samurai (age 4 - School Year 2)

Stripes - Young Samurai (School Years 3 - 6)

Colours - Samurai Kickboxers (School Years 7+) & Adults

When your child moves up an age group, they will be given their corresponding belt in their new class. 

 

TAPES.

Students collect coloured tapes which are added to their belt & once all 3 have been collected, they are ready to Grade:

Red - Exercises mastered

Blue - Stretches mastered

White - Continued good behaviour (respect, hard work & discipline)

 

IN-CLASS GRADINGS.

Lower grade belts have their Gradings in their regular Kickboxing class:

Little Samurai (age 4 - Year 2) - up to & including Brown Tags
Young Samurai (Years 3 - 6) - up to & including Orange Stripes

 

PUBLIC VENUE GRADINGS.

Higher grade belts must attend a weekend public Grading to accommodate the extended Grading time:

Little Samurai - Brown & White Tags & above
Young Samurai - Green Stripes & above
Samurai Kickboxers - all

 

BMABA ANNUAL LICENSE.

Your child’s Annual License, included in the Kickboxing class fee, covers student insurance & registration with the British Martial Arts & Boxing Association (BMABA) who validate Gradings, instil industry standards & act as an ombudsman in issues such as Safeguarding & Health & Safety.


WHAT DOES A GRADING COST? 

Grading fees cover administration, instructor time, belts & certificates:

 Little Samurai - £20

Young Samurai - £25

Samurai Kickboxers & Adults - £30

 

WHAT EQUIPMENT IS REQUIRED FOR A GRADING?

SAMURAI KICKBOXING SUIT.

A Samurai Kickboxing suit is not required until a student's 2nd Grading
Red to Yellow belt


SPARRING KIT.

A full Sparring Kit is required at these belt levels in order to Grade:

Little Samurai - Brown Tag

Young Samurai - Orange Stripe
Samurai Kickboxers - Red Colour

The full Sparring Kit is available at our website shop & consists of:

Gum shield
Boxing gloves
Head guard
Groin guard
Shin guards
Foot guards



SPARRING & GRADINGS. 

Our more senior grades will be required to attend our regular Sparring sessions to achieve a certain amount of Sparring Points before they can take their next Grading -  attendance to our Sparring sessions is therefore very important!
